Terms of Service

1. About Cadence

Cadence is a revision, learning, planning and study-support platform for students. It helps you organise what you need to learn, run focused revision sessions, and review what you got wrong. Depending on your course and settings, Cadence features may include:

• Revision planning and calendars.
• Study sessions and focus tools.
• Notes and flashcards.
• Revision libraries.
• Practice questions and mini-mocks.
• Mistake banks.
• Progress, streak and performance tracking.
• AI-generated study guidance and revision feedback.
• Microphone-based speech-to-text.
• Optional screen, voice or revision-session capture.
• Study groups and communication with other users.
• Uploaded documents, images, timetables and learning materials.
• Email reminders and account notifications.

Cadence is under active development. Features may be changed, improved, restricted or discontinued over time. Where a change materially affects how you use Cadence, we will tell you in the app or by email before it takes effect.

2. Eligibility and age

You need an account to use Cadence. The minimum age to hold your own Cadence account is [OWNER TO CONFIRM: the minimum age for a Cadence account, and whether under-18s may register without a parent or guardian].

Cadence lists school-level courses as well as professional courses, so younger students may use it. Where Cadence is available to children:

• Privacy-protective defaults apply — profiles, study activity and study-group participation are not public by default.
• Optional permissions such as recording, microphone capture and marketing email stay switched off until they are deliberately turned on.
• Parental or guardian involvement is required where the law requires it — [OWNER TO CONFIRM: the age below which parental consent is required, and how that consent will be obtained and verified].

If we learn that an account has been created below the permitted age, we may suspend it until the position is resolved.

3. Your account and your responsibilities

When you create and use a Cadence account you agree to:

• Give accurate account information, including a working email address.
• Keep your login details secure and not reuse a password from another service.
• Not share your account with anyone else without our permission.
• Tell us promptly if you think someone else has accessed your account.
• Take responsibility for what is done through your account.
• Choose an appropriate username — usernames are permanent and visible to other users you connect with.
• Not impersonate another person, tutor, institution or organisation.

4. Educational purpose and no guarantee of results

Cadence provides revision and organisational support only. Using Cadence does not replace your course, your teaching or your own study.

• Cadence is not a school, university, tutor, law firm or examination provider, and is not affiliated with or endorsed by any examining or regulatory body.
• Cadence does not guarantee particular grades, examination results, professional qualifications or employment outcomes.
• AI responses and generated study materials may be incomplete, out of date or inaccurate.
• You should verify anything important against official course materials, textbooks, your tutors, your institution and the relevant examination body.
• Cadence is not legal, medical, financial or other professional advice, even where the subject matter is legal or medical.

5. AI features

Cadence uses artificial intelligence to:

• Analyse your study activity.
• Generate and adjust revision plans.
• Create or improve notes and flashcards.
• Produce practice questions and skills tasks.
• Transcribe speech you dictate.
• Give feedback and summaries on your sessions and answers.
• Identify possible areas for improvement.
• Recommend spaced-review activities.

AI output can be wrong. Scores, bands, predictions, difficulty ratings and recommendations produced by Cadence are study indicators only — they are not marks, not guaranteed and not a final academic judgment of your ability. Always check important legal or factual points yourself.

6. Your content and intellectual property

You keep ownership of everything you create or upload — your notes, flashcards, recordings, transcripts, documents, images and timetables. Cadence does not acquire ownership of your revision materials.

You give Cadence only the limited permission needed to run the service for you: to

• store your material;
• process it so features work;
• display it back to you;
• analyse it when you ask for analysis or feedback;
• produce the study outputs you request;
• keep secure backups; and
• share it only when you deliberately use a sharing or study-group feature.

This permission ends when you delete the material or close your account, apart from copies held briefly in secure backups (see “Deleting sessions and content” below).

You must have the right to upload what you upload. You must not upload:

• Copyright-infringing examination papers, textbooks or course packs.
• Confidential client, employer or workplace documents.
• Personal information about other people without their permission.
• Unlawful, abusive or harmful material.
• Malware, or content intended to disrupt or attack the service.

7. Recordings, microphone and screen capture

Microphone, voice, camera, screen-sharing and session-recording features are optional. They never start automatically, and accepting these Terms is not permission to record you.

Immediately before capture begins, Cadence shows you a notice explaining:

• what will be captured;
• whether audio, video or screen content is included;
• why it is being captured;
• whether AI will analyse it;
• where it is stored;
• who can access it;
• how long it is kept; and
• how to stop it and delete it.

Capture only starts when you choose “Start recording” or “Allow microphone”. A visible recording indicator stays on screen for as long as capture is active, and you can stop at any time. You can delete recordings and transcripts from Settings → Data & Recordings.

In a study group or live room, do not record another participant without telling them and getting their agreement first.

8. Study groups and communication

Study groups, messaging, voice and video calls and screen sharing put you in contact with other real people. While using them you must not engage in:

• Harassment, bullying or discrimination.
• Sexual or exploitative content.
• Threats or intimidation.
• Hate speech.
• Sharing another person’s private information.
• Academic cheating or sharing assessment answers.
• Fraud, scams or impersonation.
• Recording another participant without proper notice and permission.
• Sharing unlawful or copyright-infringing material.

You can report a user, block a user, or leave a group at any time from the group screen or the People screen. Reports reach us at support@studycadence.com. We may investigate reports and, if reasonably necessary, remove content, restrict features, remove someone from a group, suspend an account or terminate it.

9. Academic integrity

You must not use Cadence to:

• cheat in an examination or assessment;
• submit AI-generated work as your own where that is not allowed;
• obtain unauthorised assessment answers or leaked papers; or
• breach your institution’s academic-integrity rules.

The rules of your school, university, course provider or examination body always apply. It is your responsibility to check them and follow them.

10. Deleting sessions and associated content

When you delete a revision session, Cadence shows a confirmation window listing everything created from that session, including:

• notes;
• flashcards;
• mistake-bank entries;
• practice questions;
• recordings and transcripts;
• revision-library items;
• planned reviews; and
• analytics and progress data derived from the session.

Everything is selected by default and you can deselect anything you want to keep. Nothing linked to the session is removed without being listed, and nothing is silently left behind: content you keep stays visible in your library, and content orphaned by older deletions can be cleaned up from Settings.

Progress, streak and mastery figures affected by a deletion are recalculated. Deleted content may remain in secure encrypted backups for a limited period before those backups expire — see the retention table in the Privacy Notice.

11. Subscriptions, payments and refunds

Not currently applicable. Cadence does not charge users at the date of these Terms. There are no paid plans, no free trials that convert to payment and no card details collected.

If paid plans are introduced, we will publish prices, billing frequency, free-trial rules, when payment is taken, renewal and cancellation terms, what happens after cancellation, refund eligibility and the effect of price changes before you are asked to pay, and your rights under the Consumer Rights Act 2015 and the Consumer Contracts Regulations 2013 will apply. 12. Availability and changes

We aim to keep Cadence available and working, but we cannot guarantee uninterrupted or error-free access. Maintenance, security incidents, third-party provider outages, network problems and technical failures can all affect availability, and some features depend on your browser, device and permissions.

Where a change materially affects your rights or how you use Cadence, we will notify you in the app or by email and, where the change is significant, ask you to accept the updated Terms before continuing.

13. Suspension, termination and closing your account

We may restrict, suspend or terminate an account where there is a serious or repeated breach of these Terms, unlawful activity, a security risk, or a risk of harm to other users. Except where we are prevented from doing so by law or by the seriousness of the issue, we will tell you why and give you a way to respond by emailing support@studycadence.com.

You can close your account yourself at any time from Settings → Account → Delete account. Closing your account deletes your revision data as described in the Privacy Notice; we may retain limited records where we are legally required to.

14. Our responsibility to you

We are responsible for loss or damage you suffer that is a foreseeable result of our breaking these Terms or failing to use reasonable care and skill. We are not responsible for loss or damage that is not foreseeable, or that is caused by you using Cadence in a way it is not intended to be used.

We do not exclude or limit our liability where it would be unlawful to do so. This includes liability for death or personal injury caused by our negligence, for fraud or fraudulent misrepresentation, and for your statutory rights as a consumer.

Cadence supports your revision; it does not sit your examinations. We are not responsible for your results, and we are not responsible for decisions your institution or an examination body makes about your work.

15. Support, complaints and contact

For help or to make a complaint, email support@studycadence.com. For anything about your personal information, email privacy@studycadence.com.

We aim to acknowledge support messages within [OWNER TO CONFIRM: the support acknowledgement time you are willing to commit to] and to resolve complaints within [OWNER TO CONFIRM: the complaint resolution time you are willing to commit to]. If you are not satisfied with our response, you can escalate it by replying to our message and asking for it to be reviewed.

16. Governing law
